Hey guys,
I am at the airport now in JHB international airport waiting for my flight to PE, so i will tell you what i have been up to.
So over the past 4 days i have been up in Mozambique competing in an international kiteboarding event. It was a massive kiteboarding festival with huge sponsors such as Sprite, 1time Airlines and Southern Sun Hotels and many more. All of my accomodation and flights from PE -> JHB -> MPT and back was all sponsored by 1time Airlines and Southern Sun. So i was travelling in style. On the 1st day we had a great opening ceremony where we all could get to know one another and have a good time.
On the 2nd day the wind picked up and we started the freestyle compotetion. The competitors were really top class and getting threw the heats was tough. I managed to pass threw the 1st two rounds realtively easily. In the quarters i was against some real good riders but managed to get threw it along with Greg Thijsse who is a real good rider sponsored by Cabrinha and has competed on the world tour before. This heat was probally my best heat of the comp landing a Kiteloop Handle pass, front mobe, slim chance, back mode, low mobe, blind judge and a 313. In the semis i kited hard and managed to win the heat.
Unfortunatley for me my semi final was straight before the final, so i had to come in land my kite and quickly swop to a bigger kite as the wind was dropping. So i quickly put my 11m up in the air and ran up the beach to compete. Once the final began i realised that i was totally underpowered on my biggest kite. But never the less i tried my best. At the prize ceremony i was told i came 3rd. Which is a great result but am disapointed as i believe if i had a 13m fuel i would of easily won the heat as the other riders were on 14m kites.
Walking up onto the podium infront of houndreds of people on the beach was a great experience. My next comp starts on the 11th December in PE which i can't wait to compete in. Until then i will be training hard to get on the podium once again.
I will try post pictures as soon as i get home
Thanks to my sponsors
Cheers
Kurt
