Hi there,
So over the past weekend we had the 3rd stop of the South African Kiteboarding Tour which was hosted in my home town of Port Elizabeth and my 1st SAKT comp this season. The event was held at a spot called Bluewater Bay which is a river mouth where the conditions get quite good every now and then.
On the 1st day the wind was really light so we just sat around relaxing and watching the serious course racers wasting their energy and time ;-) On Sunday the wind slowly but surely picked up threw out the day. My 1st heat went well and i landed some nice moves. In the semi-final the wind picked up relatively hard so i struggled a bit on my 7m but i managed to ride well and advance to the final.
In the final i had to launch my 5m, going into the final i decided to go all out as i had nothing to lose as i was unable to attend the 1st two events. So i went into the heat with one thing on mind, to ride powered. My heat started badly and i crashed my kite on my 1st slimchance. But after that i had a heat were i was happy with the way i rode. I landed 2 front mobes, switch front mobe, 2 slimchances, a low back mobe and some other dangle type passes.
At the prize giving i was awarded 2nd place which was a very close call as the other riders all rode super well but with slightly less power and a higher kite angle, but landed more and with a greater varierty. At the end of the day all the riders deserved the positions they got. Well done to all the riders who rode really well and the level of riding in South Africa is increasing quickly.
This next week i will be up in Cape Town to take some sick photos and collect some new kites. I will be keeping you posted on what is happening.
